Apple recently patented the ability to create a shopping list by scanning products. This list can then be used to check-out electronically. What is interesting about this patent is that it reveals future intentions by Apple to make scanning codes an integral part of the operating system.
Currently the iOS electronic wallet, Passbook, only allows the saving and use of digital codes and coupons, however there is no built in scanner into the iOS. Third-party scanners are typically overwhelm with too many features (bookmarking, tagging, etc).
In the future however, you’ll just fire up your iPhone camera and it will automatically know when it is reading a code and send you wherever the code wants you to go.
